Summer Safety Tips for Outdoor Fun

Get set for a fantastic summer with these tips.

Summer is here. This means time for outdoor adventures. Whether you’re hiking, swimming, or just soaking up the sun, it’s important to stay safe.

Here are some tips to keep you healthy and happy while enjoying the great outdoors:

Heat Stroke

Summers are getting hotter, with 100-degree temperatures happening more often. Don’t let the heat get to you! Stay cool by drinking lots of water, wearing light clothes, and taking breaks in the shade. If you start feeling dizzy or nauseated, it’s time to chill out and hydrate.

Poison Ivy and Poison Oak

Don’t let these pesky plants ruin your day. Learn to spot poison ivy and poison oak, and steer clear. If you accidentally touch them, wash up quickly and use calamine lotion to keep the itch at bay.

Dehydration

Keep the good times rolling by drinking plenty of water, especially when you’re active or it’s hot outside. Skip the sugary drinks and alcohol—they’ll only make you thirstier.

Bug Bites

Bugs love summer too. Use insect repellent, wear protective clothing, and avoid areas with lots of insects. If you get bitten, clean the spot and use antihistamine cream to ease the itch.

Sunburn

The heat is on, so don’t forget the sunscreen. Slather on SPF 30 or higher, wear a hat and sunglasses, and take breaks in the shade. Also consider wearing long sleeves, pants, and clothing with SPF protection. Your skin will thank you!

By staying safe, you can have fun, enjoy your summer adventures, and make the most of the sunny days ahead.
